In addition to the University’s required application materials, applicants should review the information below for additional expectations or application requirements.

  1. The resume should include details of all communication-related work experience, totaling at least three years of full-time experience (e.g., three years in a full-time communications role, six years in a role with 50% communications duties, etc.).
  2. The statement of purpose should describe the applicant’s career goals and academic interests. Applicants should focus on how they think the program will benefit them professionally and personally. The statement of purpose should address applicants’ plan to incorporate a part-time, online master’s program into their schedules, including time-management strategies and the ability to meet the course demands and residency requirements. The statement should be double-spaced and no longer than three pages.

*Instructions for requesting a waiver of the GRE test score requirement:

Applicants to the Master of Arts in Digital Communication program may request a waiver of the GRE requirement if they meet ANY one of the following four criteria:

  • Successful completion of another master’s program or terminal graduate degree program (including an MA, MS, MBA, MFA, MLS, JD, MD, EdD, and PhD)
  • 6+ years of full-time professional communications experience AND a 3.0 undergraduate grade-point average
  • 3-5 years of full-time professional communications experience AND a 3.3 undergraduate grade-point average
  • Grades of H or P in two courses in our Certificate in Digital Communication program prior to applying for the master’s program

Applicants who qualify for a waiver must request one for the requirement to be waived; the waiver is not automatic. At least 10 days before the application deadline, applicants seeking a waiver should complete the Waiver Request Form ( and upload the required academic transcripts and updated resume.

Applicants will be notified within 10 business days whether their GRE waiver has been granted.

Applicants who wish to submit GRE scores to enhance their application may do so, even if they qualify for a waiver. Applicants who wish to have their GRE scores considered should not complete the Waiver Request Form.
