Three Letters of Recommendation:
Professional references are accepted, but two references from professors familiar with your academic work are encouraged.

Statement of Purpose:  Length: 2-3 pages (maximum 1,000 words, dbl space, .pdf, name/title on each page, in English). Should describe your academic experience, background, qualifications, goals, and how study at UNC will support your intellectual and career objectives.  Also indicate classes and professors you are interested in working with.

Curriculum Vitae or Resume

Writing Sample:
Length:  10-25 pages (maximum 8,300 words, dbl space, .pdf, name/title on each page, in English).  A representative essay, analytical rather than creative in content, demonstrating your skill at formulating and sustaining a critical argument.  A portion of a seminar paper, article, policy briefing or similar project is acceptable.

*Only in unusual circumstances and after consultation with the program are other admission terms considered.

**Preference will be given to applications that have been submitted to the UNC Graduate School by December 13, 2022.
