Statement of Purpose

The Statement of Purpose for the Master of Applied Professional Studies program application at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill should explain your professional goals, along with ideas, issues, and concerns you want to explore in your program of study. Describe how you will integrate classes from at least two programs to create a cohesive and comprehensive course of study.

Your Statement of Purpose should be no more than 750 words, double-spaced, .pdf, and address the following questions:

  • List and describe your professional goals and provide justification for these goals.
  • How will this degree fulfill your professional and career goals (i.e., enhancement of your abilities in your current role, preparation for advancement to a new role, etc.) that other graduate degree programs currently offered at UNC Chapel Hill do not address?
  • What are the learning objectives for your concentration?
  • How will the knowledge and skills learned through the program align with your employment sector (i.e., non-profit, industry, administration) and contribute to workforce development?
  • What workforce/community issues or concerns will your program of study address?
  • Identify courses from two (or more) programs that will fulfill the objectives of your concentration and explain why you selected those courses.
  • What strengths do you bring that will make you a successful student in the program?
  • What ideas do you have regarding your capstone project?
