In addition to the University’s required application materials, applicants should review the information below and the program website (https://www.med.unc.edu/ahs/sphs/) for additional expectations and application requirements.

All MS-SLP applicants should apply directly to CSDCAS at https://portal.csdcas.org/. Please visit this site early for complete instructions.

Applying is a two-step process.  After your CSDCAS application has been received by UNC-Chapel Hill and the CSDCAS application has closed, you will receive an email with instructions for completing the UNC Graduate School supplemental application. If you have not received an email with the link, please contact the division.  Most information for the supplemental application  will be imported from CSDCAS; however, you will be asked to answer residency and honor code questions, and pay the Graduate School application fee.

Please be aware *For Fall 2022 MS-SLP applicants, CSDCAS applications must be submitted by December 15, 2021.  Your recommendation letters may be submitted up until December 31.

**The Graduate School supplemental application must be submitted by January 11, 2022.

Admission to the PhD Program in Speech and Hearing Sciences (DSHS) is a multi-step process. To save time for the applicant and the faculty reviewers, the following process should be completed:

  • The applicant requests an Initial Contact Sheet from Elizabeth Crais, Ph.D., the Coordinator of PhD Studies (bcrais@med.unc.edu).
  • The applicant completes the form and returns it to Dr. Crais.
  • Dr. Crais and other faculty from the PhD Committee examine the information supplied on the form and based on the student’s area/s of interest, recommend 1-2 potential mentors.
  • The applicant is encouraged to contact those DSHS faculty who share her/his interest area/s and discuss individual aspects of the program and their research activities.

Then after discussion with potential mentors, the DSHS faculty will indicate to the interested applicant whether they recommend completing an application.

*Only in unusual circumstances and after consultation with the program are other admission terms considered.
